Learn 2 Skate
at Alpine Ice

⛸️ Class Options

Learn to skate

Build confidence, learn new skills, make friends, and enjoy the feeling of being out on the ice ⛸️

Our Learn 2 Skate programme introduces skaters to the basics of moving confidently on ice, whether you’re just starting out or dreaming of gliding into figure skating, speed skating, or ice hockey. Led by NZ-qualified instructors and built around the national Kiwi Skate badge system, you’ll learn in a fun, supportive group setting with others at your level.

Lesson Overview

Alpine Ice offers skating lessons for all ages, from tamariki as young as 3, through to adults who’ve always wanted to give skating a go.

Our Kiwi Skate programme helps skaters develop strong foundational skills at their own pace. As you progress through the levels, you’ll earn badges, gain confidence, and have the option to enter seasonal Kiwi Skate competitions.

Class sizes are small (around 6–8 per group), and sessions focus on fun, safety, and support, making this a great stepping stone into recreational skating or a future in competitive ice sports.

Classes fill fast, and waitlists are common for term time, so early enrolment is encouraged.

Learn 2 Skate Terms and Conditions

  1. Enrolments relate to the specified course only and are required to be renewed each term.
  2. Full payment of any applicable course fee is required to complete enrolment. Failure to complete payment within the specified timeframe may result in your space being allocated to another skater.
  3. Acceptance of any enrolment is subject to class vacancies. Where payment is made prior to confirmation and a vacancy for the particular class is not available, a full refund will be made.
  4. It is the responsibility of the student to attend all classes; there is no recourse with respect of lessons missed due to non-attendance.
  5. Where two or more lessons are missed due to illness, the student is permitted to ‘make up’ those lessons at no additional charge, by attending another class of the same level inside that same term, subject to space availability. A make-up session must be requested in writing and will only be confirmed once Alpine has received the request to ‘make up’ the missed session along with a doctors certificate which clearly identifies the date(s) missed. Where space availability limits the opportunity for a make-up session, a partial credit (non-refundable, payable towards a future program) will be offered at the discretion of management.
  6. Student progress throughout each course varies between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.
  7. The Kiwi Skate Program is as per the New Zealand Ice Figure Skating Association requirements.
  8. Visitors, parents and friends are welcome to attend as spectators to the rink, with no entry costs, except on competition or show days, where a fee may be charged.
  9. Management policy on refund of fees due to withdrawal from a course by a student for any reason is:
    1. A 90% refund if the student withdraws at least 14 days before the commencement of the course.
    2. No refund will be made once the course has commenced. However, Management reserves the right to a partial refund where a participant can demonstrate extenuating circumstances.
    3. Alpine expects course participants will make a reasonable attempt to notify Alpine in advance of their intention to withdraw.
  10. Management, owners, staff and coaches will under their best endeavours present a professional teaching program but accept no responsibility for No. 11 below or any omissions.
  11. Any personal accident, damage, or injury to the public (including to the student) is solely at the risk of the student. Rules and guidelines are displayed in the foyer and are binding to all students.
  12. Helmets must be worn by all skaters during Learn 2 Skate classes. You can use ours free of charge or bring your own from home.
  13. Management reserves the right to make changes to and/or cancel programs at its discretion.
