ALPINE ICE – TERMS & CONDITIONS
- APPLICATION OF TERMS
1.1 ALPINE ICE SPORTS 2023 LTD, trading as Alpine Ice (“we”, “us”, “our”), operates a public ice skating and events venue in Christchurch, New Zealand. We provide recreational and organised skating sessions, skating aids, coaching, hire equipment, café services, spectator areas, private bookings and other related activities (“Activities”).
1.2 These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all customers, visitors, and Participants (“you”, “your”) who enter the Alpine Ice facility (“Facility”) or use our website (“Website”), including those attending events, making bookings, or participating in Activities.
1.3 By purchasing a ticket, booking a session, entering our Facility, or selecting “I agree to Alpine Ice’s Terms & Conditions” online:
- You accept and agree to be bound by these Terms;
- If you are acting on behalf of a minor (under 18), you confirm you are the parent, guardian or authorised agent and agree to these Terms on their behalf;
- If you are accompanying or supervising a Participant, you are also bound by these Terms.
1.4 If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not enter the Facility or use our services.
- CHANGES TO TERMS
2.1 We may update these Terms from time to time on our Website. Any changes take effect immediately unless stated otherwise. It is your responsibility to remain familiar with the latest Terms.
- DEFINITIONS
- Facility: The premises operated by ALPINE ICE SPORTS 2023 LTD, located at 495 Brougham Street, Christchurch.
- Activities: Public skating, lessons, events, hockey, group bookings, and other uses of the ice and facility.
- Participant: Any person on the ice or in the building, including skaters, spectators, and group members.
- Personal Information: Information relating to an identifiable person.

- CONDITIONS OF ENTRY & USE
4.1 Health & Safety
- All Participants must comply with Alpine Ice’s Health & Safety Policy, rink signage, and staff instructions.
- Head protection is mandatory for all skaters. Helmets provide the best form of protection, but no device provides full protection from head injury.
- Participants aged 14 years and older may wear a Forcefield Headband™ or Ice Halo™ as an alternative to a helmet, provided branding is visible and age can be verified.
4.2 Supervision
- We recommend that children aged 6 years or under are accompanied on the ice by a skating adult.
4.3 Behaviour & Rink Rules Participants must:
- Skate in the same direction as others.
- Not skate recklessly, excessively fast, or weave through others.
- Refrain from phone use while skating.
- Not carry children or climb over rink barriers.
- Not throw snow, flick ice, or damage facility property.
- Not misuse skating aids; misuse will result in hire termination with no refund.
- Not bring food or drink onto the ice.
- Not bring food or drink into the premises, except as permitted under specific bookings (e.g. birthday cake by arrangement).
- Not use speed skates during public sessions.
- Not enter the ice surface without skates.
- Refrain from stick or puck play in general skating areas.
Unacceptable Behaviour: We have zero tolerance for aggressive, abusive, discriminatory, or antisocial behaviour toward staff or other visitors. Individuals acting inappropriately may be removed from the premises without refund and may be subject to further restrictions.
4.4 Safety & Incident Reporting
- All incidents and injuries must be reported to staff immediately.
- ALPINE ICE SPORTS 2023 LTD is not responsible for personal items lost, stolen, or damaged onsite. Lockers are available.
4.5 Facility Rights
- We reserve the right of admission at all times.
- Management may inspect bags and ask individuals to leave if behaviour breaches these Terms or compromises safety.
- Anyone suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol may be refused entry or removed.
- RISKS AND LIABILITY
5.1 Ice skating and related activities involve inherent risks, including serious injury or death. These risks include falls, collisions, broken bones, head injuries, and more.
5.2 By entering the Facility or participating in any Activities, you acknowledge and accept all risks and waive any right to claim compensation for injury, loss, or damage.
5.3 In the event of injury, you authorise staff to seek medical help and agree to cover any associated costs, including ambulance transport.
5.4 To the maximum extent permitted by law, ALPINE ICE SPORTS 2023 LTD is not liable for death, injury, or damage, including arising from negligence, equipment failure, or other Participants’ actions.
- TICKETS & BOOKINGS
6.1 Tickets are valid only for the specified session. No re-entry is allowed without a new ticket.
6.2 Tickets are non-transferable and remain the property of ALPINE ICE SPORTS 2023 LTD.
6.3 Refunds are not provided for change of mind, illness, lateness, or non-attendance. Rescheduling may be possible in limited cases at Alpine Ice’s discretion.
6.4 In the event of Facility closure, a refund or reschedule will be offered. We are not liable for related travel or other costs.
6.5 Force Majeure: We are not liable for cancellations or changes due to events beyond our control, including but not limited to natural disasters, pandemics, civil emergencies, or infrastructure failures.
- ONLINE BOOKINGS & PAYMENT
7.1 Online purchases must be made with accurate personal and payment details. Confirmation will be sent by email.
7.2 All prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) and include GST unless stated otherwise.
7.3 Tickets will be delivered electronically. If not received, contact us before your session.
7.4 Once submitted, orders are final and payments are non-refundable, unless otherwise stated under New Zealand consumer law.
- WEBSITE TERMS OF USE
8.1 Use of our Website is at your own risk. We do not warrant the accuracy or availability of third-party links or content.
8.2 You may not copy, scrape, or interfere with our Website or its systems. You must not use malicious code or unauthorised software to access data.
8.3 We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for misuse or breach of these Terms.
- PRIVACY & PHOTOGRAPHY
9.1 CCTV is used for safety and security purposes. By entering the Facility, you consent to video surveillance.
9.2 We may take photos or videos during sessions or events for promotional use. Please advise staff if you do not wish to be included.
9.3 Other visitors may also take photos; we are not responsible for how those images are used.
9.4 Personal information is collected in line with our Privacy Policy. By using our services, you consent to this collection and use.
- LEARN TO SKATE TERMS & CONDITIONS
10.1 Enrolments apply to the specified course only and must be renewed each term.
10.2 Full payment is required to complete enrolment. Failure to pay within the specified timeframe may result in your space being reallocated.
10.3 Acceptance of enrolment is subject to availability. If payment is made and no vacancy is available, a full refund will be given.
10.4 No refunds or make-ups are provided for non-attendance. Where two or more classes are missed due to illness, make-up sessions in the same term may be offered, subject to availability and upon presentation of a doctor’s certificate.
10.5 Make-up sessions must be requested in writing and confirmed by us.
10.6 If no make-up space is available, a partial credit (non-refundable) may be offered at our discretion.
10.7 Student progress varies and cannot be guaranteed. The program follows the NZ Ice Figure Skating Association’s Kiwi Skate structure, see Kiwi Skate Badges.
10.8 Visitors are welcome to spectate free of charge except during competitions or shows.
10.9 Refunds for withdrawals are granted at 90% if requested 14 days or more before course start. A credit of 75% will be issued if requested between 13–7 days before the course begins. No refunds or credits will be given within 7 days of course commencement or once the course has started, unless extenuating circumstances are demonstrated and at our discretion.
10.10 Students participate at their own risk. Rules displayed in the foyer are binding.
10.11 Helmets must be worn during classes. Helmets are available free of charge, or you can bring your own.
10.12 We reserve the right to amend or cancel programs as needed.
10.13 We communicate by email and phone. Add the following to your safe sender list: skateschool@alpineice.co.nz, enrolments@alpineice.co.nz, skate@alpineice.co.nz, office@alpineice.co.nz.
- BIRTHDAY PARTY TERMS & CONDITIONS
11.1 A minimum package fee applies to all birthday party bookings. This includes skate hire and food for six people (i.e., the birthday child plus five friends).
11.2 Extra guests can be added on the day of the party at an additional fee. This all-inclusive price includes skate hire if required.
11.3 A person attending for food only, without skating, incurs a charge of $17.00. A person attending to skate only, but not eat, incurs the normal session admission fee for that session.
11.4 Requests to cancel or postpone a birthday booking must be received at least 14 days before the scheduled party date. Requests received after this period will be considered at the discretion of Alpine Ice management.
11.5 You are welcome to bring your own birthday cake, which may be stored in the café until needed. No other food or drink may be brought onto the premises.
11.6 Hosts are welcome to decorate the party table before the scheduled eating time. Please do not use cello tape or adhesives on the walls.
11.7 Party food service timing must be confirmed in advance:
- If food is to be served before the skating session, this must be arranged at the time of booking and will be reflected in the booking confirmation.
- If food is to be served during the session, please confirm timing with staff upon arrival.
11.8 The designated party table area is available for one hour from the agreed eating time. Guests may continue skating for the full duration of the public or Beginners session.
11.9 Late arrivals will still need to vacate the table area at the end of the reserved hour. Parties eating at the end of a public session must vacate the café within 30 minutes of session close.
11.10 No party poppers are permitted. Additional cleaning charges may apply if misused.
11.11 We reserves the right to amend these party terms and conditions at any time.
- LOST PROPERTY
12.1 Lost items are held at reception for a limited time. We accept no responsibility for lost or stolen property but will do our best to assist with recovery.
- ACCESSIBILITY
13.1 If you or someone in your group has a disability or support need, please contact us in advance so we can assist with safe participation. Not all areas of the Facility may be accessible.
- GENERAL
14.1 These Terms are governed by New Zealand law.
14.2 If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remainder shall continue in full force.
14.3 Any waiver of rights must be made in writing.
14.4 Subject to our Privacy Policy, we may contact you via email or Website notices to fulfil legal or operational requirements.
14.5 You agree that electronic communications from Alpine Ice (including emails, newsletters, marketing mailers, and website notices) satisfy any legal requirement for written communication.
