Alpine Ice is our Tūrangawaewae - our foundation, our place in the world and our home.

Alpine Ice has been part of the Ōtautahi/Christchurch community for nearly 40 years, but our story starts even earlier. Before Alpine, skaters carved up the ice at the Centaurus Road rink in Cashmere, the original home for many of our Coffee Clubbers and Masters Club members.

After the Centaurus rink closed in 1983, a new chapter began with the opening of The Big Apple, a modern, international-sized rink right here on Brougham Street. That rink became Alpine Ice in 1985, and we’ve been skating strong ever since.

Over the decades, generations of families have skated (and worked!) here. From the roof collapse during the 1992 snowstorm to the rebuilds, upgrades, and big wins, Alpine Ice has stayed committed to providing a fun, safe, and welcoming space for all ages and abilities.

We’re proud to be a place where memories are made, on and off the ice.
